Description: The central motif of this eye-catching design is a stylized tree with mauve blooms. The tree is surrounded by 3 different borders in complimentary colors set against a dark royal blue background. The design is stitched with two strands of Appleton crewel wool on canvas. 34 colors.
Background Information: Rose Tree was inspired by the work of William Morris. He was perhaps the foremost personality and creative force behind the Arts and Crafts Movement, which reached it's peak during the last half of the 19th century. A tremendously talented, gifted and industrious individual, Morris spent his very productive life teaching and preserving the integrity of hand-crafted design, which he believed was threatened by the impersonalization of the industrial revolution. One of Morris' sayings was this: "Have nothing in your houses which you do not know to be useful or consider to be beautiful." An excellent piece of advice indeed!
Stitching Comments: Cross-stitching with wool on canvas is very easy. A inexperienced stitcher can easily get wonderful results working these designs. The only effort required is a bit of organization because of the blended colors. Because cross stitch doesn't distort the canvas, the work can be stitched in-hand if you desire ...no blocking of the finished piece is required!
