Miniature Spring SamplerRelease date:

Description: This small sampler features over-one stitching, specialty stitches, some pattern darning and lots of pretty, soft spring colors, including a lovely overdyed silk thread from Gloriana called "Highland Garden". This is the third in the seasonal miniature sampler series. Background Information: Over the years I've received many requests for a series of smaller seasonal samplers. Spring Sampler was in large part inspired by the colors in Highland Garden, which seemed to me to cover just about every fresh shade of Spring. I decided to design some miniature over-one floral studies, and bluebirds seem the perfect embodiment of the season, too. The focus specialty technique I chose for this sampler is pattern darning, which imparts an understated texture and elegance to the piece.
Stitching Comments: Miniature Spring Sampler was designed to compliment the other samplers in the series while displaying a personality all its own. It's rather challenging (lots of over-one), but since it's small, it's a project that can be completed in a reasonable amount of time. I'd recommend using a stitching frame for this piece to maintain even tension as the specialty stitches are more easily accomplished, and the pattern darning needs a stable fabric base as well. This sampler doesn't have any cutwork, unlike the two previous samplers, which should make it appealing for those who get too nervous cutting into their fabric! ;-) Specialty Stitches: attaching beads, over-one, herringbone variations, 3-sided, 4-sided, eyelets, and lazy daisy, pattern darning.
