Description: An unusual pennant-shaped sampler featuring the words to a traditional English Christmas carol instead of an "alphabet". A border of ribbon-twined holly and ivy surrounds a specialty stitch white-work border accented with pearl blending filament and white beads. Surrounding the over-one stitched carol wording are Celtic knotwork motifs, and various specialty stitch bands accented with more metallics and beads. An alphabet is provided for personalization of the sampler. An elegant design stitched in shades of gold, green, red and white. Background Information: The Holly and the Ivy is one of my favorite Christmas carols, and I've wanted to incorporate some of the words into a stitched design for a long time. While the design has a definite Christmas "flavor", its coloration and composition make it appropriate to hang in your home throughout the year.
Stitching Comments: While this design may look complex, it really isn't that difficult. The white-work is composed primarily of different sized and shaped eyelets along with some simple backstitching, some lazy daisy stitches, and some beads. The design requires no knowledge of cut-work or other intimidating techniques. There is a bit of couching, but the chart includes an easy-to-follow diagram, plus diagrams for all of the specialty stitches used. And, for those of you familiar with my cross stitch designs: you'll be pleasantly surprised at the (relative) brevity of the color code! Pattern Errors/Corrections: yes
