Description: Seated among dark green holly leaves, winter's brunette faerie is dressed for the chill in the air in shades of gray, pink, turquoise and violet, and her gossamer butterfly wing shimmer in the same iridescent shades of sunlit frost. A holly motif border accented with beads completes this winter-flavored design. Background Information: Imaginary beings are some of my favorite subjects. Because they are pure fantasy, they can take on any characteristics I choose. By placing these beings in "real" settings, the sense of unreality is heightened, allowing the viewer's (stitcher's) imagination to take over. Although I used photographic reference for the shape and structure of the wings, the colors are purely imaginary. Evergreen holly with its red berries seemed to best exemplify winter's foliage. If a "frosty" or "shimmering" effect is desired, metallic blending filament could easily be added to this design.
Stitching Comments: This design is about medium size, including the border, and is of average difficulty: there are some quarter stitches, and quite a few blended colors (over half). The chart in leaflet form is not yet available. Specialty Stitches: diamond eyelet Important Tips:See: Charting Technique, Organizing Floss, Miscellaneous Tips
