Description: One artist's vision of Christmas morning; this design is adapted from original artwork by Judy Jamieson. The oval-shaped design features old-fashioned toys scattered about on a carpet under the trimmed boughs of a traditional Christmas evergreen. The design is stitched totally in full cross stitches. Background Information: This is the only adaption of another artist's work I've ever done and my most difficult challenge to date. Although the design has been well-received (the illustration is quite charming), the design process was very constrained and unsatisfying. To design successfully, I must be able to improvise as I work, and allow a design to "evolve"...so, for me, the process is just as important as the end-product. Since the assignment was to translate a finished piece of art into a stitched version, the challenge was actually a "technical" one, instead of a "creative" one. (So much for "evolution"!) It is truly a gift to be able to do adaptations well...a gift I most definitely do not possess!
Stitching Comments: Although this piece is rather large, it is designed without fractional stitches, so it goes quickly. Roughly 1/3 of the floss colors are blended. Specialty Stitches: None Important Tips: Organizing Floss Under the Evergreen Floss List
