Description: A graceful blond faerie with butterfly wings of brown, gold, pink and blue alights amidst pink and white cherry blossoms. A floral motif border accented with beads completes the design. (First in a series of four seasonal faeries.) Background Information: Imaginary beings are some of my favorite subjects. Because they are pure fantasy, they can take on any characteristics I choose. By placing these beings in "real" settings, the sense of unreality is heightened, allowing the viewer's (stitcher's) imagination to take over. I used photographs of actual butterfly wings for design reference: the lace-like tracery of the veins imparts an amazing delicacy, while the colors of even these predominantly brown wings are (in actuality) almost infinite in their subtle variations. The choice of blossoms as flora seemed the logical thing for spring.
Stitching Comments: This design is about medium size, including the border, and is of average difficulty: there are some quarter stitches, and quite a few blended colors (over half). The chart is printed large and is very easy to read; the leaflet organizes the chart in page form.
