Description: A dramatic design in three parts: In the large central panel, a massive, many-towered stone castle dominates the surrounding forest, its reflection visible in the still water of a nearby lake. To the right, a knight in full armor, sword at his side, rides his splendidly appointed war horse. To the left, a maiden dressed in a blue dress and mauve cape rides a unicorn through the countryside. A gothic-inspired tracery border featuring beads and specialty stitches completes the triptych. Background Information: I've always wanted to design a triptych: it seems to me to be an ideal means for storytelling...three separate scenes all inter-related, perhaps chronological in nature... or maybe three different scenes all frozen in the same moment of time? Who knows for sure? Everyone who sees this design will probably have a different "version" of the "story" (whatever that may be!). I also wanted to design this piece so each scene could stand on its own compositionally and be stitched separately, if so desired. Originally, I had planned to do this triptych on a grander scale, and design each panel as a separate piece.... maybe someday....
Stitching Comments: This is a large and involved piece: lots of fractional stitches, a *huge* floss list (about half of which are blends), small over-one sections (faces), and a couple specialty stitches thrown in for good measure. The chart is printed larger than most, and is very clear and easy to read; it is a pull-out, folded twice. Specialty Stitches: diamond eyelet, plaited cross Important Tips: See: Charting Technique, Organizing Floss, Large Designs, Specialty Stitches, Miscellaneous Tips
