-About Gicleé Prints-

The term gicleé (ghee-klay) is French, meaning "to spray" or "spatter out". It describes the method by which ink is applied to paper when producing this type of print.

Gicleé prints are produced in the following manner: An image is first recorded digitally via high resolution scanner, and then is printed on special wide-format, ultra high-resolution ink-jet printers using archival inks and specially treated substrates (paper or canvas).

Because the image to be reproduced is not photograped in the traditional manner, but is instead digitally "captured" via a special camera integrated with the scanner, the accuracy and clarity of gicleé prints is truly phenomenal. The minute blurs and degradation of images produced via the more numerous "steps" in the offset lithography process are not present in properly produced gicleé prints.

Due to the extremely high resolution at which the original art is scanned, every nuance is perfectly captured: every line, every shade of color pigment, is accurately reproduced. Personally, I am hard-pressed to see the difference between an original and a gicleé print. And in some cases, I believe the quality of the print is actually *better* than the original!

TW Designworks gicleé prints are professionally produced to exacting standards, and are the best quality reproductions possible. They are printed on Epson UltraSmooth Fine Art Paper (100% cotton, acid-free, 500 g/m2, 29mil ) with a wonderfully smooth surface... necessary for crisp reproduction of the finest ink lines. Because of the thickness of the paper, all TW Designworks prints are shipped flat, with extra packing material to assure they arrive in pristine condition; rolling the prints for shipment is not possible.

The attributes of the process described above make it possible to reproduce art at virtually any size (measurements, of course, remain proportional!). For this reason, TW Designworks can also offer prints in sizes other than those listed for sale on the website. Please e-mail me for pricing and shipping quotes.
